Mercury, Venus, and Saturn align with the Pyramids of Giza for the first time in 2,737 years on December 3, 2012

i’ve never reblogged anything so fast

Fav

The last time this happened, an Egyptian Pharaoh was there to see it.

Ooooooh
My
Gooooooooooooooood

Neat picture but I’m a little skeptical because Venus and Mercury are closer to the sun than Earth whereas Saturn is farther away, yet these are all occupying pretty much the same part of the sky and there’s no Sun to be seen. It may very well have happened and I hope so because it’s very cool but I can’t work out the logistics in my head. Anyone got more on this because I’d love to be more sure about it

heck yeah I have more info:
http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2012/08/20/planetary-alignment-pyramid-scheme/
tl;dr yes the planets were pretty close to each other at the time, but on the opposite side of the sky. and not at all aligned with the pyramids.
the pic is fake

I can’t believe that all of these sounds came from an NSF file.

the 2a03 sound chip.

on this thing:

like. holy shit.

if you had said “oh that’s an amiga tune” I’d be fine. been there done that, amiga’s a great platform for sounds.

but THE NES??

just.

holy shit.

golly

golly

now you've made me curious. apparently I still have some (if not most?) of these files. the screens were 320x240 pixels, and jpg as fuck. apparently I also tried to make each episode's intro a downloadable avi. those were 160x120 pixels. 5mb each. damn.

all hail the ancient ass garbage we put up with

im

seriously

the fucking

geocities pages

oh god i had the fucking

i had the fucking naruto opening saved to a floppy disc

do my followers even know what a floppy disc is

(5/5 sorry for the spam)

just to add to the above: I had a bunch of floppies with pokemon information.

I tried to gather as many pokemon facts as I could at the time into a sort of master pokedex, sourcing the games, the cards, the show, and every internet rumor

this was back when pikablu was still a thing

and fucking this

oh shit, VHS tapes. this was only 10 years ago but I ran a fansite where I would record the show on to VHS as soon as it aired, connect my VCR to a special input card on my computer, play it back, and take screenshots of all of the jokes. I think I had 50 whole MB of free hosting to work with. Low quality abound. (I don't want to say what show or identify myself, but I think that's worth sharing.)

FABULOUS

ancient fandoms fucking PERSISTED

4/5

I remember those 16yrs they were something. We had VHS tapes with four episodes on them before DVDs came out with the entire seasons. And we had video games on N64 and ha I was 12 to see the very last movie that played at our local theater, the South Park movie that had just came out. Yep oh and Kenny's Dead the music video and no YouTube to look for it.

i cant even fucking imagine

not sure if you're enthusiastically playing along with my silly joke or if you're putting too much faith into this anon's claims lol. I have no actual reason to believe the radio part but I have seen a very small version of the fanart trading. I can tell you that people would talk about fantheories and stuff on BBS's and IRC channels...20+ years ago. not too familiar with it though.

enthusiastically playing along lmfao

i in no way believed the radio bit ahaha

but even when i was in midle school, we used to print out pictures and fanfics and swap them at school. not everybody had a computer back then and even if they did, it was dialup or they didn’t have a printer or yada yada

fanfic trading was actually pretty big

i actually pritned off a few fanfics once and a friend actualyl traded me a copy of deathnote 3 for them like yooooo

i didnt even write them

may as well take credit for this, too

I love making BS “back in my day everything was a pain and the ass AND WE LIKED IT” stories lol

(2/5)

hello yes I am anon of 16 years south park. I tell you story. back when I first joined the fandom we did not have internet, so everybody had to photocopy our shipping art and hand deliver it to other fans in nearby areas. of course, we used shortwave radios to discuss fan theories, when the weather permitted. it was common practice to use morse code due to the terrible signal fidelity, but we managed. rumors say that matt and trey would listen in on the radio sometimes.

wow wow ow wowo tell me more wow w owowoww wo

but how did you avoid the police listening to the short wave radios

also anon im laughing because you’re presenting the ‘photocopy and hand deliver shipping art’ thing like its ridiculous but

people actually used to do that

they used to have mailing lists for fnadoms and ships and shit even before they had the terms as such. and people used to, yeah, photocopy art and send it to eachother. people used to literally trade fanart and fanfiction like its own currency. “ill swap you a three page spockxkirk fic if you can get me 3 or 4 spockxkirk pics- colour!!! no b/w!!!!

that was a real thing lmfao

last night nate and friends talked about ancient fandoms

I thought it was really interesting, but couldn’t decide whether or not to reblog it

but I also know that nate makes about 500 posts per day so if I don’t reblog these now I’ll never be able to find them again

so here we are. 1/5
